life!!

Long long ago, a very successful and wealthy business man, Dhanraj Patil was blessed with a baby boy. He decides to name his heir Pinku Patil. Pinku was a nice bonny little kid who was intrigued by the smallest and minutest enigmas of life. Pinku was fascinated by EVERYTHING, especially ping pong balls. The first time he came across a ping pong ball was when Dhanraj left his tennis raquet and ping pong ball after a tiresome four hour game with his friend, Yuvraj Kapoor. So, Dhanraj Patil gets Pinku a ping pong ball for Pinku's fourth birthday and so began Pinku's rendevous with Ping Pong balls.

After a year,
Dhanraj: Beta, aapke janam din ke shubh sandarb pe aapko kya chahiye. (Son, what do you want for your birthday gift?)
Pinku: Pithaji, mujhe ek ping pong ball chahiye (Daddy, I want a ping-pong ball.)

Dhanraj is surprised at Pinku's wish. Year after year, for every birthday, Pinku asks his Pithaji for ping pong balls. Pinku finishes school and is the state topper. When Pinku joins college, Dhanraj offers to buy him a Pulsar bike. Pinku does not accept it and instead requests his father for a ping pong ball. When Pinku graduates from the most prestigious engineering college in the country, Dhanraj buys a black Audi A3 TDI for him. But Pinku simply refuses the car and asks for four ping pong balls. After a few years, Pinku gets married to a beautiful girl, Rinku. For his wedding gift, Pinku asks for ten ping pong balls. Three years later, when Pinku and Rinku are blessed with a cute little baby boy, Dinku, all Pinku asks for is ping pong balls again. Dhanraj is mightily stunned but never questions Pinku.

Time passes by, seasons come and go, things change, petrol prices have increased from Rs.20 a liter to Rs.73 a liter, a whole new revolution takes place in the fashion industry , what was in yesterday has become passe today, Pinku has turned from a lanky lad to a petu seth, yet, the only consistent thing, the only thing that doesn't change in Pinku, Rinku, Dinku and DHanraj Patil's life is the ping pong balls. The entire house is filled with ping pong balls, ping pong balls of all colors and designs ( all credit to Rinku for her creativity here); Ping pong balls from all over the world.

One day, while Pinku is driving home from work, he meets with an accident. The latch on the truck that is maneavering slowly in front of Pinku's car gets unfastened and all the iron rods in the rear of the truck fall out onto Pinku's car shattering the windshield of his pearly white sedan and piercing Pinku in the chest. He is admitted into the ICU at the best hospital in the city. Rinku, Dinku and Dhanraj Patil are devastated and wait outside the ICU. When Pinku gains consiousness, he asks if he can talk to his father; his hero. Dhanraj walks into the room and looks at his son with profound sadness, and says, "Pinku beta, can I ask you something?" Pinku nods his head in a yes. DHanraj wants to solve the msytery of the ping pong balls and asks him why he had asked for ping pong balls all his life.

Pinku , with great dificulty, says, "Kyun ki (because....)....." and closes his eyes and never wakes up from that deep slumber again. The msytery is still a mystery and Pinku's grave is decorated with ping pong balls.

such.....are the ironies of life!!
